We lost a big three inch branch on the red maple when it became loaded down with too much snow. The tree would have been magnificent this year with all the snow moisture, but when you drive up the street, the hole is very conspicuous.
I keep hoping the interior branches which usually don't see the light of day will awake from a deep sleep and create new branch-lets to fill in the hole.
I will take progress pictures through out the summer to see if that is so.
